Real Madrid to pay surprise fee for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid Set to Pay Fee for Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid is on the verge of finalizing a deal to bring right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to the Santiago Bernabeu. The 26-year-old defender has already agreed to personal terms with the club on a five-year contract. Initially, the plan was for Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of his contract this summer. However, with the Club World Cup looming in mid-June and the transfer window opening at the start of the month, Real Madrid will need to pay a fee to Liverpool in order to secure his services in time for the tournament. Reports also suggest that the club has promised Xabi Alonso three new signings before the competition begins.

One of the signings that Real Madrid has already secured is Dean Huijsen, with left-back Alvaro Carreras and Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to follow suit. Negotiations for Carreras are expected to ramp up this week now that Benfica’s season has concluded. Initially, it was speculated that Real Madrid would reach an agreement to bring Alexander-Arnold in early for around €1m. However, sources suggest that the club will now pay €5m to Liverpool to secure his services a few weeks before his contract expires.

Xabi Alonso’s Approach to Transfer Business

Upon his presentation as the new manager of Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso remained tight-lipped about his transfer plans and the decision not to extend Luka Modric’s contract. The Basque coach mentioned that any signings would be a collaborative effort between him and the club, without revealing much about the future of players like Rodrygo Goes or his tactical setup. There is speculation regarding whether Alonso will continue with the three-at-the-back system used at Bayer Leverkusen or opt for a more traditional back four formation.
