Nico Williams moves closer to Athletic Club exit

Nico Williams takes crucial step towards leaving Athletic Club

Nico Williams: The Next European Star?

As the summer transfer window approaches, Athletic Club’s Nico Williams is once again making headlines in Bilbao. The 22-year-old winger, who turned down a move to Barcelona last year, is now catching the eye of top clubs across Europe. With a contract running until 2027 and a €58m release clause, Athletic Club is in talks with Williams to secure a contract extension and possibly raise his release clause to ward off potential suitors.

Bayern Munich Leading the Race

Recent reports suggest that Bayern Munich is leading the race to sign Williams, with the German giants prioritizing him for their wide positions this summer. Talks between Bayern’s transfer chiefs and Williams’ agents are ongoing, with the player reportedly open to a move to Munich. Unlike his previous pursuit by Barcelona, Williams seems more inclined towards a move to Bavaria.

Bayern Munich is willing to meet Williams’ salary demands, which are around €20m per year gross. While negotiations are still in the early stages, the Bundesliga champions are keen on securing his signature. Despite their interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, Bayern Munich seems focused on acquiring Williams.

Premier League Suitors

Aside from Bayern Munich, Premier League clubs Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Williams. Although Barcelona seems to have moved on from pursuing him, the interest from English clubs remains strong. While Williams had previously expressed interest in a move to the Premier League, recent reports suggest he may have reservations about a potential move to England.
