Laporta links Barcelona sale to registration issues

Joan Laporta hints at registration woes causing key Barcelona sale

Barcelona Center-back Inigo Martinez Departs for Al-Nassr

Barcelona bid farewell to veteran defender Inigo Martinez over the weekend, as he made a surprising move to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on a free transfer. Martinez, aged 34, was expected to play a key role in Hansi Flick’s squad for the upcoming 2025-26 season, making his departure unexpected for many fans.

Reports revealed that Martinez had a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the club for free if he found a new opportunity. However, club president Joan Laporta suggested that Martinez was encouraged to take the opportunity in Saudi Arabia for personal reasons, highlighting the club’s support for his decision.

Martinez’s Departure Eases Barcelona’s Registration Challenges

While Martinez’s exit is a loss for Barcelona on the field, it has relieved the club of his wages, aiding their efforts to register several players before the new La Liga season kicks off. This move comes at a crucial time as the club faces registration issues, particularly in ensuring the eligibility of players like Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji for the upcoming matches.

Despite the challenges, Laporta remains optimistic about resolving the registration concerns, stating, “We are working to ensure that they are all registered. This week, things will happen.” The club is hopeful that the necessary arrangements will be made in time for their upcoming fixtures.

The situation remains uncertain, with Garcia likely to be registered, but the availability of Rashford and others may be in question for the initial matches of the season. Flick and the team are working to find solutions before their first game against Mallorca.
