16 Atletico Madrid Ultras Arrested for Vandalism
Violent Incidents Near Metropolitano Lead to 16 Arrests
Police in Spain have recently made 16 arrests following violent incidents near the Metropolitano stadium. The altercation involved around 50 young people, some of whom were wearing Atletico Madrid clothing. Two of those detained were underage.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred around 16:00 CEST last Sunday, after Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Getafe. Described as ‘ultras’ by the police, the group targeted radical fans and caused chaos in a Chinese Bazaar. They destroyed glass cases, threatened the owner, and intimidated other customers.

Police Intervention and Investigation
The owner of the bazaar alerted the authorities, who promptly arrived at the scene and made the arrests. The individuals taken into custody ranged in age from 16 to 25. An ongoing investigation aims to determine if they are affiliated with the club and which ultra group they belong to.
Trouble with Ultra Groups
While it remains unconfirmed if the far-right group Frente Atletico was involved, Atletico Madrid has faced challenges with their main ultra group at the Metropolitano this season. Following an incident where objects were thrown at Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, the ultras’ section of the stadium was temporarily banned. This has caused division among Atletico fans, with some showing support for the group and others expressing dissent.
