Valencia Resumes Mestalla Stadium Renovation
Valencia Resumes Construction on Nou Mestalla Stadium
After a 16-year hiatus, Valencia has announced the resumption of construction on the Nou Mestalla stadium. The club plans to complete the project by July 2027, allowing them to play the 2027-28 season at their new home.
Stadium Features and Capacity
The revamped Nou Mestalla will boast four tiers with a seating capacity of 70,044, although it will initially open with 66,000 seats. The stadium will include 3,000 VIP seats and will meet UEFA’s top category standards for hosting major events. All seats will be covered, and the stadium’s design will resemble a bowl, drawing inspiration from the iconic Metropolitano.
Financial Details and Funding
The total cost of the project is estimated to be around €300 million. A significant portion of the funding, approximately €80 million, will come from the CVC agreement. Additionally, Valencia has sold €30 million worth of VIP boxes to Atitlan and secured a new loan from Goldman Sachs to refinance existing debts totaling €186 million. To finance the stadium construction, the club will take out a €325 million loan, repayable over 25 years starting in 2027 at a cost of €25-30 million annually.
Potential for 2030 World Cup
Although Valencia missed out on being selected as one of the host cities for the 2030 World Cup in Spain, there is hope that the Nou Mestalla could still play a role. The Royal Spanish Football Federation is reportedly making efforts to include the stadium as a last-minute addition, as announced by President Rafael Louzan. Once completed, the Nou Mestalla is poised to become a state-of-the-art venue for football and other major events.
