The Nigeria Team Returns Safely After Airport Ordeal

The Nigeria national team recently faced a challenging situation when they were held by Libyan authorities at an airport. This incident occurred as they were preparing for a crucial qualifier against the Libya team for the African Cup of Nations.

Unexpected Airport Diversion

After securing a 1-0 victory over Libya in Abuja, the Super Eagles embarked on their journey to Benghazi for the return fixture. However, their flight was diverted to Al-Abaq airport, located 200km away from their intended destination. During their unexpected stop, the team was reportedly held without access to food, water, or internet.

Safe Return to Nigeria

Despite the challenging circumstances, the team’s captain, William Troost Ekong, confirmed their safe return to Nigeria via a video message on Monday evening. The players were relieved to be back home after enduring a 17-hour ordeal at the airport in Libya.

Concerns from Sevilla

Sevilla, a Spanish football club, expressed concern for their players, Chidera Ejuke and Kelechi Iheanacho, who were part of the Nigerian national team. The club ensured that the players were safe and sound and would return to Spain promptly.
