Inaki Williams boosted by Ghana AFCON failure

Ghana's AFCON failure offers Athletic Club key Inaki Williams boost

Inaki Williams to Miss AFCON 2025

Inaki Williams will not be representing Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, as the Black Stars failed to qualify for the competition. This will mark the first time since 2006 that Williams will not participate in the tournament.

AFCON 2025 Schedule

AFCON 2025 is set to kick off on December 21, with the final scheduled for January 18, 2026 in Morocco. Despite initial hopes, Ghana’s draw with Angola dashed their chances of making a late push for qualification, leading to Williams’ withdrawal from the squad due to injury.

Impact on La Liga and Spanish Super Cup

With no AFCON commitments, Williams will not miss any La Liga games for Athletic Club as the new year approaches. Additionally, he will be available for a potential Spanish Super Cup appearance, as the 2025 edition is scheduled from January 8-12.

Athletic Club, who secured a spot in the 2025 Super Cup by winning the 2023/24 Copa del Rey, will begin their cup defense in January after receiving a bye for the early rounds. While their chances of qualifying via La Liga are slim, they have the opportunity to make an impact in the upcoming tournament.
