Hansi Flick on Barcelona’s Wojciech Szczesny Signing

Hansi Flick explains thought process behind Barcelona's signing of Wojciech Szczesny

Barcelona Maintains Perfect Record in La Liga

Barcelona secured their seventh consecutive win in La Liga, defeating Getafe in a hard-fought match. Despite a less-than-convincing performance, the Catalans managed to maintain their lead at the top of the league table with a four-point advantage.

Hansi Flick’s Post-Match Reflection

Following the match, Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick shared his thoughts on the game. He acknowledged the challenges his team faced against Getafe, praising their defensive strength.

According to Flick, “I’ve been told it’s normal against Getafe, they’re a good team in defence. The team fought for 95 minutes. I’m proud of the team, they fought the whole game. I’m also proud of the fans who have realized that we needed them.”

He further emphasized Getafe’s defensive prowess, stating, “They are very good in defence and they are compact. It is not easy. Sometimes we don’t have the necessary speed. In the end, we scored a goal to secure the three points.”

Impending Signing of Wojciech Szczesny

During the post-match press conference, Flick was questioned about the upcoming acquisition of Wojciech Szczesny, who is set to replace the injured Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. While Flick refrained from discussing the signing in detail, he hinted at the rationale behind the decision.

He commented, “I’m only talking about the players I have. Inaki (Pena) is our number one goalkeeper and we’re very happy with him. That’s all I can say.”

Flick highlighted the need for more experience in the goalkeeping department, stating, “Inaki is 25 years old, but the other goalkeepers are very young. We need more experience and that’s why we’re talking about it. We’ve discussed it and will have to make a decision.”
