Frenkie de Jong on Future & Performances

Frenkie de Jong reiterates stance on future, addresses performances

Frenkie de Jong’s Contract Stance with Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has expressed his confidence in reaching a long-term agreement with the club as the summer transfer window approaches. With just a year left on his current deal, de Jong, one of the highest earners at Barcelona, was initially expected to leave this summer. However, recent improved performances have shifted both his and the club’s perspective on the situation.

Despite Director of Football Deco’s stance on not wanting players to enter the final year of their contracts, de Jong remains optimistic about securing a new deal. Reports suggest that he may change his representation to facilitate the negotiation process.

‘Not My Best Year at Barcelona’ – Frenkie de Jong

De Jong, who has been criticized for underperforming in the past, finally received recognition for his performances in 2025. However, he humbly admits that he believes he has delivered better performances in previous seasons at Barcelona.

Reflecting on his season, de Jong stated, “This wasn’t my best year. People tend to exaggerate. Despite my injury, I believe I played well even before that. The difference now is that we have a stronger team, which reflects in our performance. Personally, I think I was in top form before my injury. Winning all titles in Spain and reaching the Champions League semi-finals also put a spotlight on me.”

Champions League Elimination and Preferences

De Jong also shared his thoughts on the Champions League, expressing that he was more at ease with Paris Saint-Germain winning than Inter.

“The Champions League elimination was disappointing, but I can accept Paris Saint-Germain winning as they played well. Losing to Inter may have been a blessing in disguise, preventing any ‘what if’ scenarios,” de Jong remarked.
