Espanyol star responds to Joan Garcia’s Barcelona transfer
Barcelona’s New Goalkeeper: Joan Garcia
Barcelona recently made headlines with the signing of goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol. The 24-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the club and is expected to take on a key role in the team this season, replacing the likes of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny.
Upon this transfer, there was a mixed reaction from Espanyol fans, with some expressing disappointment. However, defender Omar El Hilali offered a more understanding perspective on Garcia’s decision to move across the city to their rivals.
In a statement to MD, El Hilali mentioned, “It’s going to sound very typical, but everyone is free to choose what’s best for them. If he considered that going to Barça is the best thing for him, I’m happy for him.”
Barcelona’s Expectations for Garcia
Initially, Barcelona had not planned to bring in a new goalkeeper, intending to rely on Ter Stegen and Szczesny. However, Garcia’s impressive performances for Espanyol last season caught the club’s attention, leading to his signing.
While Garcia has shown promise during pre-season with Barcelona, he is currently ineligible to play in official matches for the team. He is among the six players that the club aims to register before the upcoming season, with him being the top priority for eligibility in the match against Mallorca.
