Sekhukhune United’s Early Dominance
Sekhukhune United came out strong, with Fortune Makaringe putting pressure on Cape Town City’s goalkeeper, Darren Keet, just three minutes into the game.
In the 10th minute, Keet had a close call when he pushed a header onto the post, narrowly escaping an early setback for his team.
The visitors were put under pressure, with Lorenzo Gordinho stepping up to make a crucial clearance in the 17th minute to prevent a dangerous cross from Linda Mntambo.
City’s Resilience and Missed Opportunities
Despite Sekhukhune’s dominance, Cape Town City remained resilient, with Gonzalez creating chances to break the deadlock, including a powerful shot from outside the box in the 29th minute.
The pivotal moment of the first half came when City was awarded a penalty in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, Gonzalez’s strike hit the crossbar, leaving the teams level at halftime.
The second half saw Gonzalez miss another opportunity in the 67th minute, firing over the bar from close range. However, he redeemed himself in the 87th minute with another penalty, sealing the victory for Cape Town City.
